Nectarines: How to Check for Bugs

Nectaries are not infested under normal circumstances and need not be checked

Wash the peel thoroughly before eating the nectarine. No checking necessary.

To check a nectarine which has soft spots, follow these steps:

1. Cut away the soft spots.

2. Check immediately under the peel (i.e. just peel away the skin) of that soft spot to make sure there is no infestation.

3. Cut more deeply into the nectarine under the soft spot and check there for infestation.
