Pistachios: How to Check for Bugs

Pistachio nuts are sometimes infested with insects. Must be checked before eating.

How to Check Pistachios

Take a sampling of ten per cent. Cut them in half, lengthwise. Look for infestation or signs of nibbling. If nothing is found in the ten per cent, the rest of the pistachios may be eaten, without checking. If infestation is found—all of the pistachios must be checked.
